What is The Airwolf Years ?

How did we end up with an airwolf podcast?

Before we get lost in trying to describe what on earth this podcast is all about, we must first unravel the story of Ciampa and Klein. If you have been listening to us and following with our madness, thank you! You have a pretty good idea of what is going on… but to our new listeners or for those who have innocently discovered our brand, the following is our not so enlightening or shocking story. In fact, its rather bland. (sorry to disappoint)

We are friends. Dave Ciampa and Greg Klein. We met way back in 2003 while in collage doing stupid collage stuff. Fun fact: we were both Theater Majors. Dave went to class, Greg, not so much. Anywho….. we became fast friends and were even roommates for a year which is where the real trouble started. We ate too much cafeteria food, mixed all of the beverages in one cup, (yes, soda and milk), drank 40’s of malt liquor in our room in a dry dorm while watching Freddy Got Fingered and ate Jack Links beefsteak nuggets on long introspective evening wanderings. We also hung a grocery bag full or water on our RAs doorknob, which was fun.

Our restless minds always had to create. Silly videos and audio recordings were the norm for us. We even made a website that you can still find traces of now! Remember, the internet is forever. Unlike a photo copy of your ass at the office, the internet holds on to those late night drunken texts of your junk that will absolutely end up on social media, primed to get barfed up a decade later as you run for state senate. College however, is not eternal. It is fun for the most part but has to end eventually and in classic Ciampa and Klein fashion, we lost touch for the better part of two years even though we lived within 20 miles of each other.

It must have been the haunting call of ( insert majestic prehistoric bird ) that dissolved our laziness and we started hanging out as post collage adults. In full disclosure, neither of us see ourselves as real adults. Perhaps it’s our generation but even though we both masquerade as legitimate “grown ups” with families and cars and houses……we never made it beyond fart and dick jokes. It has to be said that our simple jokes have developed a sophisticated vocabulary consisting of words and phrases such as blumpkin, torch-job, and hot carl. So be it. We still feel loved by those who truly matter.

( I’m getting to Airwolf, just hang on)

Life continued and our urge to put content out into the world was becoming unbearable. We had always wanted to do something creative but would fall short of being able to follow through or sustain any momentum. We fought with each other non stop on what we should pursue. And by fought, I mean we watched fail videos on YouTube, muscled through Human Centipede One, Two, and Three and drank eggnog with brandy and Scotch.

One day Dave suggested starting a Podcast, so it’s his fault. In all fairness, he did all the research and learned about hosting, RSS feeds and how to get a logo made. I had audio gear already so there was nothing to hold us back. We came up with a name and stepped into the unknown.

Ciampa and Klein Blow Your Mind

This was the beginning. We went full tilt and dutifully released one episode every week for over a year. Nonsense mostly but as they say…. just start getting stuff out there. We had a lot of fun and learned how to be better with our banter. That wasn’t enough. We wanted a more stable concept, one that could be somewhat evergreen and could keep us interested enough to continue with podcasting. “lets watch a tv show from the 80s” we said ok…which one? We picked a doozy……

Mullets and Memories

MacGyver Boys Final.jpg

A Macgyver podcast about Macgyver, was the next incarnation of our show. The silly thing is, we actually started releasing episodes of this new show at the same time as Blow Your Mind, resulting in double header recording sessions and late nights. Whatever. We can handle it right? Ultimately we released 147 episodes of this show covering all 7 seasons and two tv movies. This tightened up our skills even more as we began to find our voice. But that still wasn’t enough……. While recording Mullets and Memories we dreamed up, outlined and executed the most challenging, rewarding and exhausting show to date.

The 1440

1440 Final BLUE PNG 400x400.png

In actuality, this show is a concept. Why not record the entire run of a podcast in one sitting? Record 24 episodes back to back for 24 consecutive hours then release them weekly for 24 weeks. Simple to say but it took 6 months of planning to build an outline that we could follow as we plowed from one hour to the next. We have no trouble talking about random crap for an entire day, but to stay on track and not derail at 3 AM was where the meticulous planning truly paid off. This show will be re-released on April 5 2021.Check it out. Holy shit, I’m exhausted thinking about it. We have been asked when we would attempt another show like this and honestly we don’t know if we can do it again! It pushed us to the limit. Give it a listen and hear for yourself.

The Knight Rider Years

This is where the show we now have began to take shape. As Mullets and Memories was wrapping up, we asked our listeners where we should go next and Knight Rider became the target. All of our previous experience in podcasting was thrown into this new show and it is also where the idea of Ciampa and Klein, The ( enter show name) Years was born. Knight Rider was a turning point. The crossing of where we had started with Blow Your Mind and where we went with Mullets and Memories. General topic discussion about life, liberty and the pursuit of bathroom humor mashed into a weekly structure of reviewing an 80’s tv show one episode at a time. With our fabricated realities of Michael Knight and the redacted black ops back stories of Devon Miles, we furthered our voices as Greg and Dave, the hosts of the show, but also learned how to be true to our mission in reviewing these episodes while not taking ourselves seriously. We are delighted that we have found an audience that connects with our sense of humor and is willing to share their insights and be part of our journey!

The Airwolf Years

Finally we are here! This is where the story stands in February 2021. The past 4 years and hundreds of hours of episodes have lead to Ciampa and Klein The Airwolf Years. We are generally lazy and don’t like to mess with stuff that is working, so we just kept the Knight Rider Years feed running and jumped right into Airwolf. Probably a stupid idea but we did it anyway. The names and thumbnails have been changed but the faces are the same and by faces I mean your idiot hosts. All of the questionable facts and tertiary research that went into Knight Rider will now be applied to Airwolf. Will this mess up our SEO, our hashtags, our social media? Will this confuse our listeners? Probably but It doesn’t matter. Just roll with it.
